No. Really.

  1. “Meet Me on the Equinox” (Death Cab for Cutie)
  2. “Friends” (Band of Skulls)
  3. “Hearing Damage” (Thom Yorke)
  4. “Possibility” (Lykke Li)
  5. “A White Demon Love Song” (The Killers)
  6. “Satellite Heart” (Anya Marina)
  7. “I Belong to You” [New Moon Remix] (Muse)
  8. “Rosyln” (Bon Iver and St. Vincent)
  9. “Done All Wrong” (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club)
  10. “Monsters” (Hurricane Bells)
  11. “The Violet Hour” (Sea Wolf)
  12. “Shooting the Moon” (OK Go)
  13. “Slow Life” (Grizzly Bear featuring Victoria Legrand of Beach House)
  14. “No Sound But the Wind” (Editors)
  15. “New Moon (The Meadow)”

Thom Yorke from Radiohead, Death Cab, OK Go, Bon Freaking Iver and a crap load of other artists that are probably better than anything the average teenage girl listens to. Plus it’s ten times better than Stephanie Meyer’s suggestions which like entirely composed of Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance. But seriously, this is awesome. Like really awesome. Like I might just stop making fun of the franchise and let it be awesome.

No. Really.

I still need someone to successfully persuade to me why this needs to be made… Although Jackie Earle Haley (aka Rorschach) looks perfect for the role of Freddy Krueger.

Cloudy_with_a_chance_of_meatballs

1. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (24.6 Mil) – Yikes! Second weeks as number one and had an insanely low drop (only down by 19% compared to last week). It made 60 Mil in total which isn’t bad for a film in September. This is how studios are rewarded when they give Mr. T a voice acting role.

2.  Surrogates (15 Mil)

3. Fame (10 Mil)

4. The Informant (6.9 Mil)

5. Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself (4.7 Mil) – STILL???????????

Role Model: Roman Polanski

The modern day world of mature animation has to give a big thank you to Ralph Bakshi, arguably one of the first American filmmaker to release animation for adult audiences to the mainstream. He got his start with controversial pieces like Fritz the Cat and Heavy Traffic. Eventually he went on to do films that we’re not only easier to swallow and accessible but much more contrived and rewarding as a whole. First there was Wizards, an experimental and imaginative post-apocalyptic fantasy film. Then he went on to do an animated adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. After that he made what in my opinion is his masterpiece, American Pop.

American Pop is a beautiful journey through American Pop music through the eyes of four generations of a Russian Immigrant family and the rise and fall of their dreams to make it big in the world of music. From big band swing, to the psychedelic anthems of the 60s, music of all genres is used as a juxtaposition for these characters’ fame, success, romance and tragedy. The film makes heavy use of rotoscoping, a heavily overlooked animation technique where animators trace over live-action footage frame by frame. It sounds like a chore but the result is breathtakingly realistic animation.

If you’re a fan of American music or underground animation films, you need to check out this film.

The Best Game You’ve Never Heard Of

Can video games be considered an art form? Such a debate has been argued ever since the medium stormed the masses in the mid-80s. While still many believe that video games can and never will be art, a little game called Facade may change a lot of peoples minds.

Described as an interactive one-act play, you play a character who is invited to Tripp and Grace’s house, two long-time friends. While things seem normal initially, the scene quickly become sour as the couple argues and ultimately reveal their deep marital problems. As the player you can communicate with these two characters fully in real time and events throughout the game change significantly depending on what you say. You can try to solve their problems, take sides or even be the definition of a rude, inappropriate guest. Either way, they’ll respond to your comments and the game’s outcome will be different based on your interaction with the characters. For example, if you say something profane or vulgar, they’ll look offended or uncomfortable. If you continue to say rude things, they’ll eventually be fed up and kick you out.

The result of such deep interaction is something more than a video game but a true example of interactive art. Frankly, this is the future of video games; something that is both engaging and emotionally complex using interactivity and artificial intelligence to create a powerful experience for the gamer.

You can download the game for free here.
